Overview

A regional hospital serving over 400 outpatients per week was running entirely on paper records. Patient files were physical, prescriptions were handwritten, and billing was reconciled manually at end of day. Lost records and billing errors were costing both time and money. AstraWorks built a digital management platform tailored to the hospital's existing workflows, minimising the learning curve for clinical staff.

The challenge

Clinical staff had little tolerance for complex software — they needed a tool that felt as straightforward as the paper system they were used to, but faster. We also had to handle intermittent internet connectivity, since the hospital's connection was unreliable. Any downtime in the system was clinically unacceptable.

Our solution

We built an offline-capable Progressive Web App backed by a synchronising server. Nurses and reception staff can register patients, log consultations, and process billing even when the connection drops — data syncs automatically when connectivity returns. Doctors access a clean consultation interface with patient history, prescription logging, and lab request management. The billing module integrates directly with Mobile Money for patient payments.

What changed after launch

Patient registration time dropped from ~12 minutes to under 3 minutes. Billing reconciliation that previously took 2 hours each evening now runs automatically. The hospital estimates it recovered approximately 60% of previously unbilled consultations in the first quarter after launch.
